Guiding principles
Validate the problem, not the solution.
Discovery is not a phase you get through. Opsware shipped because the problem was understood before the answer was.
The customer comes before the roadmap.
First in sequence, and first in priority. When the plan and the person it was written for disagree, the plan is what changes.
Make the better path the easier one.
People do not change behaviour because you asked. They change it because the new way costs them less.
Build it before you argue about it.
A working prototype settles in an afternoon what a document argues for a month. Opinions converge fast once there is something to click.
Teams, not projects.
Projects end and take their context with them. Durable teams compound what they learn.
Nothing counts until something moves.
A shipped feature is not a result. The question is what changed for the customer once it was live, and whether anyone checked.
